Basketball legend, Kobe Bryant passed away due to helicopter crash
A basketball icon, Kobe Bryant passed away due to a tragic aircraft incident, resulting in a total of nine deaths. The crash happened at 10 AM near Calabasas, where Bryant lived with his family. The basketball player’s 13-year-old daughter, Gianna also died in the crash.
The news has shaken up the entire world and the sports industry, in particular. Coaches, players, and fans have been offering condolence to the Bryant family. They are united in sharing their love and admiration for the iconic basketball player, posting anecdotes and memories on social media.
What happened during the crash
Initially, news outlets were citing the source, which claimed that there were only five deaths, resulting from the accident. But more recent reports show that there were actually nine people that have passed away in the crash. The list of all victims has not been made public, but we do know that along with Bryant’s daughter, there was another underage girl in the helicopter. The Orange Coast College Basketball team coach, John Altobelli was also present, along with his wife and a 13-year-old daughter. The daughter of Bryant and Altobelli were close friends. They were apparently playing together. Another basketball coach, Christina Mauser was also on board. Mauser was a coach at Gianni’s school. The news about her being in the helicopter broke out when her husband wrote about it on his Facebook page.
There is not much information about the crash itself, but we know that the helicopter went up in flames while high in the sky. It ended up crashing near Las Virgenes, on a field. A witness reported that they heard an unusually loud noise, which later started to sound like a crash. The helicopter has been identified as a Sikorsky S-76B and the investigative team is already working on gathering more information on what might have caused it. Bryant would usually take his private helicopter to move around LA, just because he wanted to avoid the traffic.
The response from the celebrities has been huge, with the likes of Kanye West, Mariah Carey, and Alicia Keys all taking a moment to share their condolences and admiration with the public. Across the US, many basketball games are honoring Bryant with a moment of silence, to pay respects to the player. He wrote the moving story back in 2015. Bryant was with the Lakers for his entire professional career, which spanned for 20 years. Kobe became NBA’s Most Valuable Player in 2008, claiming the title of a two-time NBA Final’s MVP as well. Bryant also holds the title as the player with the second-highest single-game total, through his 81 points, scored against the Toronto Raptors in 2006. Even the figures like Donald Trump, Barack Obama, and Usan Bolt expressed their disbelief and offered Bryant’s family their deepest condolences.
