Bitcoin trading has gotten closer to the world of sports, thanks to Bitcoin trading giants, eToro, who recently announced that they will be sponsoring seven teams from the English Premier League. This major announcement, which was made on 21st August, aims at sponsoring a total of seven teams in England’s top-flight league, in an attempt to popularize the brand as well as Blockchain technology.

Originating from Israel and founded in 2006, eToro has grown from being just a mere trading platform, to become one of the main players in the industry, offering millions of Bitcoin users a safe, secure and reliable platform to buy and sell Bitcoin.

The partnership, according to eToro’s UK managing director, Iqbal V. Gandham, represents the first step on a long road to football embracing the use of Blockchain technology.

“Today’s announcement is very much the first small step on a long road to football fully embracing blockchain technology.

Iqbal continues. “Education will be key so that industries can understand the potential, however, the openness of these Premier League clubs to taking this first step, is very exciting for everyone.”

Blockchain brings transparency, which means it can improve the experience for everyone who loves the ‘beautiful game’.”

According to a recent report, the English Premier League happens to be the most watched sports league globally, attracting more than 4 Billion views from fans in more than 200 different locations in the world. With such a huge fan base, it means that the league is a goldmine for advertisers and eToro is going to benefit just as much as the seven teams it is sponsoring.

The annual salary for a most of the Premier League players is set at £2,642,508 or just over £50,000 per week, so paying the players in Bitcoin is a future possibility. In addition to this, Bitcoin offers value through its futuristic Blockchain technology, which will make ticketing, transfers and other transactions more transparent and the clubs seem to be excited about it already.

The Saints Football Club Director, David Thomas, tweeted: “We look forward to working with them and learning more from them about the potential that cryptocurrency and blockchain technology can have in football.”

Other clubs that eToro will be sponsoring in addition to Southampton FC include Tottenham FC, Leicester City, Newcastle United, Cardiff City, Crystal Palace FC and Brighton & Hove Albion.
